Hey Everyone,

I am a PR in Canada and my friend applied to come visit me in Canada for two months or so and his visa was denied. We're just trying to figure out what would have played a factor in their decision and how we can provide concrete evidence when we reapply.

The reasons his Visa was not approved:

1) Employment prospects in country of residence
2) Current employment situation
3) Personal assets and financial status
4) You have not provided sufficient documentation to support your / your host's income and assets.

If anyone can shed light on exactly they mean when providing those reasons above would be helpful.

A bit of back story: He has been living in Ireland for the last year (until May 10th of this year) on a Student Visa. He went to school and worked as well (max. 15 hours a week, as per his Visa's requirements). When his Visa was up, he returned to Brazil for 2 weeks before returning back to Europe to attend a music festival in Germany. He is currently still in Europe (he can stay for 3 months) traveling with a friend. He wanted to come visit me in Canada before returning to Brazil or going back to Europe.

He currently doesn't have a job as he is traveling, but has enough money saved. I mentioned in my invitation letter that I would cover his entire costs while he was here (which I fully intend to do). He will stay with me and I will pay for any food he needs. I guess my mistake was not proving my assets, not showing how much $$ I make annually, or proving that I have my own place for him to stay.

He plans to either go back to Brazil or back to Europe, whatever makes most sense at the time.

Any advice would be so incredibly helpful! The denial was a really hard for us but we're still encouraged to try again but we don't want to mess it up again.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure the application is going to be approved if the only change you make is to provide proof of your funds. I think one of the problems with his application is that he cannot demonstrate ties to his home country or show (for example) that he has temporary status in Europe and will be returning there to study. If he had a job he was returning to or if he had a valid study permit and could show he was taking a vacation before continuing his studies - then I think there would be a higher chance of approval. As things stand now, I think it will be difficult. Having said that, you can certainly try again.

Hey! Thanks for your quick response. This is the first time for both of us applying for a Visa so I think we missed out some crucial documents the first time. Things that showed he went to school in Ireland, worked in Ireland, his ticket back to Brazil at the end of his stay, etc. The process is a bit daunting. When he goes back to Brazil he would be able to work with his father, but his father is self-employed. Would it be helpful if his father wrote a letter saying that? We didn't think to include that the first time.

Probably not strong enough. Him moving around without a stable employment tying him down probably was the strongest reason for rejection. Him applying from a country where he doesn't have long term residency or employment was another one. Perhaps once he is back in Brazil and employed, it would be a significant enough change to apply.
