I'm a Canadian citizen getting married to an Indian citizen (born and currently living in India) in a couple of months in Feb. We got engaged in Oct in family's presence and are now thinking of applying for a visitor visa. My partner has a stable permanent job in India currently.

We're wondering if should apply for a visitor visa BEFORE a PR Spousal Application i.e should we:

1) wait till we get married and use the AOR from the PR application to apply for the visitor visa or

2) apply for the visitor visa now while my partner is still single (while telling the truth in the application that we will eventually get married in a few months in India itself in family's presence (proofs of venue bookings, etc) and apply for PR spousal visa thereafter)? What can be done to improve our probability of success?

In case we do get the visitor visa approved, and given our marriage is in Feb; how should we proceed with the PR application? Should my (then) spouse wait in India until the biometrics and medicals are done for the PR application?

In case the visitor visa does not get approved now, would it affect my partner's PR application in the near future or even the tourist visa application (that we would apply after the AOR from the PR application)?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

At this point it is unlikely to get processed before February so you’ll need to notify IRCC that you are married no matter what. You probably have a better chance of being approved after you have received AOR from sponsorship although just easier to obtain a TRV for a spouse when chances used to be minimal and not guaranteed.
