Hello everyone,

I am a permanent resident. My wife, from Indonesia, will ask a Visitor Visa in order to ask PR visa from inside the country.
I am wondering if there will be a problem if she wants to come without a return ticket? Problem to get Visitor Visa? Problem with airline company? Indeed, visitors have to have return ticket but if she stay with me while waiting her PR she does not need return ticket!!
Could you please help me?

Thank you...

It's mandatory she have a return flight ticket. The airline most likely won't allow her to board the plane to Canada without one.

You should not purchase the flight ticket until you have an approved visa.

Hi Scylla,

Thank you for your quick answer.
I hear you, but is not logic because my plan to ask PR for her from inside Canada while she is Visitor is totally legal. So I do not understand why the company would refuse that.

Moreover, thank you for your second advise, but why would I have to wait until I have Visa to buy flight ticket?

Yes - it's completely legal to apply for PR from within Canada on a visitor visa. However if CIC knows this is your intention, you can expect the visitor visa to be refused. It's actually extremely common for visitor visas to be refused for individuals with Canadian spouses because visitor visas are for people who only plan to visit Canada temporarily - not stay permanently. To be approved, you'll need to demonstrate she has strong ties to her home country and has no plans on remaining in Canada long term.

Again, it's quite common for a visitor visa to be refused in your situation. It's always smart to wait until after the visa is approved to buy an airline ticket so that you don't end up wasting money if the visa is refused.

Airlines refuse boarding to those with visitor visas and only one way tickets because in the event that person isn't allowed into Canada and is returned home on the first flight back, the airline has to pay for the return ticket. They don't want to pay for the return ticket - they want you to already have a return ticket.
