Visitor visa from Canada

Is there any way to get a temporary visitor visa if I'm already in Canada? I'm waiting for my husband's sponsor approval still, but I'm pregnant and was hoping to get alberta healthcare long enough to safely deliver. I'm not sure how else to do this without getting a visitor visa, since we have to have the approval already to apply otherwise. I'm from the US, and really I'm not sure what I can do, if anything.

AFAIK citizens from visa exempt countries can apply for an eTA but not a Visitor Visa.
