I have a valid V1 vistor visa multiple entry with validity till 2023 as I visited for vacation earlier. Can I use that for short term (less than 120 days) research at a public funded Canadian university without any additional visa or work permit?

Do you meet the conditions stated in the link you provided?

It would be best to email your documents to your local visa office and request for an opinion/whether or not you are eligible for a work permit exemption

Yes I meet all these conditions (but also do note, I will receive a stipend from MITACS):

• The foreign national is coming to perform work for 120 consecutive days or less and has not been granted an exemption under the public policy facilitating entry into Canada for short term work in the last 12 months.
• The foreign national intends to perform work as a researcher.
• The foreign national has an offer from a publicly funded degree-granting institution (at the college or university level) or its affiliated research institution (see note).
• The foreign national has a significant role to play in or value to add to the research project.
• When entering Canada, at the request of an officer, the foreign national produces written confirmation from the receiving institution attesting to the details of the work as being primarily research and outlining the duration of the work.

You would want to check with the visa office as you will get a stipend + is the institute will also pay for your airfare (if that's the case)?

Hi Bryanna. VFS is the VAC (Visa Application Centre) so I mailed them. They replied that they cannot advise on types of visa etc so asked me to mail the high commission in New Delhi. On mailing the High Commission in New Delhi I got back an automatic reply that

"Due to a high volume of inquiries we can only respond if you have an application in process. The service standard is 15 working days."
and that they will NOT respond to any questions on general information related to visa types etc,.

Please inform me what do I have to do now and who do I have to contact.

VFS won't be able to answer any queries about visa applications nor processing status. Anyway

If you're a highly-skilled researcher/global skills strategy + visiting for less than 120 days then you don't require a work permit, only a TRV. It's only because the Canadian university will fund your visit that you need to recheck with the visa office about the work permit.

Do try emailing CPC-Ottawa as well. You might get a reply sooner from them than from NDVO

The CPC-ottawa website mentions that it should be contacted either for PR or for TRV from WITHIN Canada. Can I also contact them?

You mentioned “you don't require a work permit, only a TRV” so V-1 is also fine for any purpose solved by a TRV, right?

My only question is that is V1 visitor visa good enough for this?

IRCC is the best source to answer your question. IMO, it's always best to reconfirm with the visa office (not MITACS) than to violate immigration rules

Hey Bryanna, yes we are eligible for the global skills strategy. We wanted to know whether a V1 is alright to get an exempt if your under the global skills strategy.
