Hi,

I am living in US. My parents are visiting me for few months this summer. We are planning to visit Canada during that time. We are planning to apply Canada visa for them online. They both are retired and I am sponsoring their trip. The Visa tool on cic.gc.ca suggests only forms, passports, photographs and clear copy of US visa as required documents. However, application form IMM5257E asks about the funds available for travel to Canada. I am planning to send my employment verification and last few payslip. If I am sponsoring them, do they need to show any financial documents on their own?

Thanks in advance.

Have your parents visited the US earlier in the last 10 years? If yes, they can apply under the CAN+ program for which financial documents may not be required.

They will, however, have to prove entry stamps in their passports.... and specifically mention in their Canada TRV applications that they are applying under CAN+ program

Yes they have traveled to US in last 10 years.

I am aware about the CAN+ program, but couldn't fine any India specific reference on the immigration website. I also inquired about the program from VFS(handles Canada Visa applications), did not get any response from them. Can you please provide any relevant link to help put up application together? Like guidelines to fill forms if using CAN+ program.

Do check the CIC website.... there's information about CAN+ for Mexicans.

Normally, VFS staff check passports for US/Canada entry stamps and should advise to apply under CAN+.

The application forms are the same as those for TRV.... you must mention about CAN+ in the cover letters + submit scanned entry stamps.

Even though financial documents are not required, do show that your parents have finances for their visit + return flight tickets from the US to India which means they must leave Canada at the end of their visit

Thanks for the reply Bryanna, very helpful tips.

One doubt, My dad doesn't have any deposit of his own, I am fully sponsoring him. He owns the house which is worth really high, and few vehicles fully paid off. Do you think this going to create any problem for his visa?
