Hi, I want to invite my mother to visit me in Canada next year. However, in most checklists for visitor visas I see that we need to include declarations that I'll be bearing all her expenses etc. But I'm just a new undergraduate student and my education is being funded by my uncle back home. Will this be a problem? Can't I just show my uncle (mother's biological brother)'s bank balances etc and state that that's gonna fund her expenses too here?

Hi,

For a TRV, your mom must be able to pay for her visit including the airfare, not you.

If your uncle is funding your education + your mom's visit then this would reduce the chances of her getting approved. She must have finances of her own. Your uncle can then provide a Letter of Financial Support with his bank statements.

Hope your mom can show reasons to return to her home country: Immediate family, employment/business, property ownership or a rent agreement, any previous travel history

Cheers

Hi Bryanna,
Is it a problem if I sponsor my parents? I have been working here long so I have better bank balance to show.
And when should I apply? Does applying 3 months before arrival date sounds logical? (because airfare gets more costlier near the date)

Sure, you can apply for your parents. Do remember that your parents must show they have the finances to pay for their visit even though you will take care of their accommodation, travel and living expenses.

You must consider the processing time of the relevant visa office too

The processing time is 3 weeks for Singapore CIC.

she can show that she can fund the expenses but do you reckon they'd ask for more details like, the source of income or her occupation etc she's not really working so that might be a hassle.
i thought it'd be easier to get visit visas for parents who's children are currently living/studying in canada, like thats a valid reason to visit but i guess thats not the case..

If your mom files her tax returns + she can explain the source of her finances (for example, if it's from rental income or interest earned on bank term deposits or from shares or if she sold land/property or even if she is paid in cash, etc) then that would help
