Visitor Visa for Parent (About an Expiration)

I have applied for my parents visitor visa and it was successful enough, but now my dad's Visa and passport both expires in august 2016.
He had never travelled to any other countries neither in Canada as well, if he comes to Canada can he still come for a stay for a month or two in June or July 2016 ? or is it mandatory to have Visa or passport validation long enough for 6 months or so ?

Your dad can apply for a new passport. The current passport will be cancelled once a new passport is issued.... but the TRV will still be valid.

He must then travel with both the passports.

Yes, he can visit for 1-2 months in June/July. The immigration officer at the POE will determine the duration of his stay.... if he has a new passport issued then he may even be allowed a 6 months stay (unlike if he travels with his current passport where his stay could be limited to lesser than the validity of the passport)
