Hi,

My MIL is in India and we would like to invite her for 5months to visit my wife. Me and my wife are currently in work permit. Am full time employed. While filling the application form, it asks to show Proof of means of financial support.

The problem is she is not having enough funds in her bank account. She does not hold a land or property and they live in a rental house in Bangalore. However, she is working in Bangalore as Nurse helper. Can I show my funds for proof of means of financial support and add her pay slips and letter of employment to show that she will travel back to India?

Is it mandate for her to have enough funds in her bank account for the travel? We desperately need her in Canada. What are the options or documents which we can give to support her proof of means of financial support?

Any inputs would be really helpful

Thanks

Since you are on work permits, she has to show that she can afford her visit to Canada. She needs to show her bank accounts, proof of employment and also letter of employment stating that she can take 5 months off of work. You can show your funds but they are secondary to her own proof of funds.

Thank you! Can I transfer my funds to her account and show that as proof? Also, is there a specific amount of funds which we need to show?

Also, I have mentioned that she is dependent on us for financial support. Should she still provide her bank statements?

She must provide her bank statements. A "dump" of funds from you into her bank account is a big, red flag. Ask for a 3 week visit as she doesn't seem to be able to afford a 5 month visit.

Thank you Natugrl! If it is 3 week visit, we will get visa or stamping only for 3 weeks? Or it can be extended once she is here? Am just looking to have her here for just 4 or 5months

If they don’t stamp it then 6 months. Decision is at CBSA’s discretion.

Thank you! Just in case if they stamp it only for 3 weeks, is it possible to file an extension of her stay within Canada?

If she is is only given a short TRV it is almost a test to see if she will follow the immigration guidelines because they have concerns about her staying in Canada. If you provide provide a request of 3 week travel and letter from work granting her a 3 week leave and stay for 4-5 months the next time she applies there will be concern she isn’t telling the truth. Would start off seeing if she can get the TRV first.
