I'm a Canadian PR along with the rest of my immediate family except for my father who has been working overseas in order to support us financially. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we have not been able to see him in over a year. Even before the pandemic, his visa applications were rejected so we traveled to him in Saudi, however, very recently, Saudi Arabia decreed a travel ban on Syrians (almost right after the US relived there travel ban), which our family hails from, so now there seems to be now way for us to meet unless our father can come see us.

I'm very aware of the circumstances and dangers of travelling at the moment, but my father has been living on his own ever since we immigrated to Canada, all the while working his hardest to support us. I'm sure many have been separated from their families, and so I was hoping if their was any action we can take in order stress our current situation and share our pleas with the appropriate parties.

The big issue is that your family, minus your father it seems, claimed asylum in Canada. The fact that he is Syrian and the rest of his family applied for asylum makes his risk of potentially remaining in Canada and not just visiting very high. That is why I assume his TRVs are denied. Was your father part of your asylum application?? You may need to meet in a 3rd country.

You're correct in your assumption as that he might stay in Canada is the reason we were informed for why his visa has been denied in the past (but of course, he wouldn't as he his job is in Saudi Arabia). I don't fully understand the details, but my father has been included in our asylum application as my mother's husband; it wasn't until just before the pandemic started that we became PR and our father was instructed to start his PR application and send his documents to Canada's immigration offices in India. But unfortunately, with the pandemic, his application has gone nowhere so far.

These are an important details.

Since he is part of an asylum application, my opinion is that applying for a TRV will unfortunately be a waste of money and the TRV is guaranteed to be refused because IRCC know he has an intent to remain in Canada long term (as well as due to the fact that his family has claimed asylum in Canada).

IMO the only realistic option for him coming to Canada is to wait until his PR application is approved as part of your mother's asylum application.

There is certainly nothing stopping him from applying for a TRV. I just really believe the chances of approval are effectively nil and this will be a waste of money and also a frustrating experience for you.

Sorry - I'm sure that's not the answer you wanted to hear.
