Hi Guys,
Need your help..
I am PR holder in Canada. I would like to apply visitor visa for my brother. He lives in India and currently he is stay home parent for his 3 years old daughter. His wife is working as a teacher...I will be supporting him financially for his visit to Canada. He will visit me and my wife for 2-3 weeks. Intention is tourism and family visit.

My question is that can I provide letter of support? He does not have sufficient funds. Shall we show his wife's Pay stubs and Bank statements to prove his ties?
How can we make his application stronger?...

Please advise.

Much appreciated.

Hi,

It's could become a bit of a challenge for your brother to get a TRV.

Does your brother live with other family members?
Who will take care of his daughter when he is visiting?
Does he own or rent property?
Is he likely to resume employment or enroll for a study program before he applies for a TRV?
Does he have any other responsibilities/commitments in India?
Has he traveled to any other country recently?

Your brother must prove he has the finances for his visit. If you provide a letter of support, it will only confirm that he has weak financial ties. Your invitation letter can state you will provide accommodation, food and travel.

Does he hold a joint bank account with his wife?
Can he (and his wife) show he has CAD 1000 per week of his visit + airfare + other expenses?
Do they have any FDs or other financial investments?

Cheers

Thank Bryanna for your quick response.

Yes, he lives with daughter and wife. His wife will have summer vacation in month of June, so she will be taking caring of her daughter..
He owns a property, however property is on his wife's name.

He is appearing for some exams for govt. jobs.
He has his parents living in India.

No he has never travelled outside India.

Can his wife provide letter of support?
or they shall apply for TRV for entire family to make this case stronger..?

Thanks.

The application will be stronger if he travels alone and leave his wife and daughter behind in his home country.

Hi,

The only strong ties that your brother can demonstrate are his immediate family i.e. his wife and his daughter.

a. Does he hold a Power of Attorney for the property owned by his wife? Do they live in this property?

b. Has he registered for any of these exams for government jobs? Are the examination dates for any of these jobs AFTER his intended visit?

c. Yes, his wife can provide a Letter of Financial Support. Can she show CAD 1000 per week of stay + airfare for him? Do they have joint bank account(s) or any other joint financial investments?

d. Typically, a job as a teacher does not pay a high salary (unless one is a teacher in a private college or a coaching class). Would funding your brother's Canada visit appear to be too large an expense compared to his wife's income?

e. Do your parents live in the same city as your brother? Are they dependent on him for their well-being?

Cheers

Hi Bryanna,

a. He does not have a Power of Attorney for the property owned by his wife. They dont live in this property. They have let it out.

b. He is done with exams, waiting for results.

c. Yes, His wife can show balance of 2 Lac INR. They dont havea ny joint account.. I asked him to open one.

d. His wife is earning good money as she is a teacher in Private school (KVS)
e. No, Parents dont live with him...they live in nearby city and are not dependant on him as they get pension from Govt.

What do you suggest to make his application stronger? Do you think if I can provide my proofs (T4/NOA/pay stubs etc)...

Hi,

First off, IMO your brother should NOT apply for a TRV anytime soon. He should wait until April-May 2016 (just before his wife's summer vacations).... because his personal/professional/financial situation could be much better by then.

Some suggestions:
1. He must try to get a job and/or enroll for a study program. The sooner he does this, the better.

2. His daughter is at pre-school age. So the *stay-at-home-dad situation* could seem rather unusual in an Indian environment. Hence, your brother must try to get a job.... and work for a few months before he applies.

3. His wife can include his name to her bank account immediately. He would need to show 6 months bank statements for his TRV.

4. His wife can give him a Power of Attorney for her property..... for example, to manage the property, collect the rent, carry out repairs, etc. The rent can be deposited in the joint bank account (rent can be shown as his *income*). He must also submit 1-2 proofs that he has represented his wife using this POA.

5. INR 200,000 is not enough. They must save some more until April-May 2016.

6. His wife can apply for a credit card with your brother as the secondary applicant ie an add-on card. Try to get good credit limits but keep the outstanding dues low.

Do post details of your brother's revised situation around March-April so that we can advise accordingly

Cheers
