Visit visa or (TRV) is for those who want to visit canada for a short period and the purpose can ideally be tourism. you just have to send a simple letter or an email to the applicant which will serve as an invitation letter or as a proof where the applicant is going to stay which will also determine that how much money he/she needs during his/her stay in canada, thats the only solid purpose of an invitation letter otherwise visitor visa is totally granted on the circumstances (intentions and financial situation) of the applicant.
i can suggest the following tips:-
1) to much heavy loaded invitation letter with tons of supportive words and declaring bank statements, pay slips etc of the person whom is to be visited is a red flag (who is applying? atleast not the person who the applicant is visiting)
2) establishing a fact (by providing pictures etc) that the relationship between the applicant and the person whom the applicant will visit can change into a long term relationship is a Red flag (suspicious intentions that the applicant may choose not to leave canada and get married).
3)Tourism is a want not a need. (so claiming to be a tourist and stressing on friends doesn't logically match. in some cases friends are important too).
4) a simple, clear and honest approach is the key (timings, intentions, affordability)
5) the more sound and stable the applicant himself is...the more chances to get approved.

hope it helps
