Visitor visa = extension ?

Hi! I am currently in a long distance relationship with my American boyfriend (I am a Canadian citizen), and he has been visiting me here in Canada.

I was wondering if he was here visiting me in Canada for 3 months, then left for a month to America and is now back in Canada. Does the 6 months restart? or does he just have 3 months remaining now?

Also what are the chances of us extending his visa getting accepted, on the sole reason that we are long distance and just want to spend time together? lol. (His family sends him money to support him while he is here).

Any info + help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance !

On each entry he gets a 6 month.
In my knowledge americans dont need visa to come into canada and they can stay for 180 days as a visitor. He can exit reentry whenever he want, there is no visa required.
If you mean that he want to stay beyond 180 days, in that case he have to file for Visitor record extension application with IRCC, and explain that what he is doing in CAnada? why he want to stay beyond 180 days? can he afford the stay? etc.
