Visitor visa extension question! Please help! :)

Hey everyone!

My wifes visitor visa expires April 17th 2017, we already submitted our application for sponsorship but it was returned. We sent it back after fixing the errors about 1 1/2 weeks ago. We submitted the application with an Open work permit but afraid if the package gets sent back again that her status will no longer be valid. Should we apply for the visitor visa extension now, or take a chance that we get an AOR number? If we apply for a visitor visa extension will that cancel out the OWP that we also applied for in the sponsorship application?

If you fixed all of the errors and are confident in your app, then you should be fine but that decision is really up to you.

Note that you would be applying for an extension of visitor status, not extending a visitor visa. Applying for a visitor extension will have no impact on the OWP app.

If we want to wait 1 week after her visitor visa expires can we still apply for an extension of visitor status? Or is that too risky, and have a negative impact on our sponsorship application?

If you submit a visitor extension app AFTER her current status expires and the PR/OWP app is returned again, she will be out of status at that point.

Note: If a second application for extension is submitted after the first application and the decision rendered on the first application was

-rejected for incompleteness, then the application is returned to the applicant. The application is considered to have never been received, no implied status is granted, and the applicant will be considered in status until the original temporary resident document expires.


If you choose to apply for the visitor extension to cover your bases, you would need to apply before her current status expires.
