Visitor Visa Extension Granted - Can I Visit US & Return

My American girlfriend has almost stayed for her full 6 months in Canada. We have just enough time to apply for a visitor visa extension. If this is granted (for an additional 6 months). Can she leave Canada to visit the US and return to Canada through the extended visitor visa extension?

Visitor status ends when a person leaves Canada. She would be evaluated as a new visitor upon returning. I'm assuming she's not going to try anytime soon with the current travel restrictions and this would be after the restrictions are lifted.

Note that CBSA doesn't like people living in Canada as visitors, so there is always risk that she will not be able to re-emter.
