Visitor visa expiring soon

Hello everyone
My husband is a British citizen and our file is with cic right now under spousal
We got our file number on August 3rd and still waiting for aor2. My husband will be completing his 6 months on August 25. My question is he can't stay more than 6 months so he has to either extend his visitor visa or he can travel to states for a week and come back.. My concern is will he have any issues at the border? Should we just extend while in Canada for another 6 months? What can I say in my application as a reason for extension. What if he gets denied. All the negative things are coming to my mind. If anyone can please share the experience they had in past or any suggestions

He needs to apply to extend his stay. Include proof of the PR app and proof of sufficient finances and there should be no issue.
