Visitor visa (by mail) delay LA consulate

I have applied for a visitor's visa at the LA consulate, it's been little over a month since I applied and have not yet received my passport back. The one mistake I made was, I sent them Fed Ex prepaid envelope rather than the USPS mail. I did not know that the consulate only uses USPS to send mail back. On the website it clearly mentions that if the return envelope is not USPS, they will send back the documents via ordinary mail.

It's been 2 weeks that the consulate cashed my cashier's check that I sent along with my document. I contacted the consulate via email as that's the only way...(unless someone on this site knows a better way to contact the visa office), and got a standard return email saying it would take them 28 days to respond back if they think a response is viable.

Has anyone on this site experienced something similar?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same situation. I sent my passport on 9 May and till now haven't got my passport back. The UPS guy told me that I didn't have to put the returned envelope because the envelope I sent can be reused. I faxed and emailed to LA Consulate but don't know when they will respond back. Is there a way to find out where my passport is? I am so worried.

The consulate won't use any return envelop other than USPS priority or express mail. My stamping time was one week. So you can keep an eye on your mailbox in case ur passport comes in a regular mail since it's been 20 days.
