My girlfriend lives in Canada and I in Egypt. I'm trying to visit her this winter break on the 22nd of December to the 21st of January (a total of 31 days) and applied last week for a Temporary Resident Visa but my application was refused. In the refusal Letter it was stated that my application did not meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Regulations. In short, I did not satisfy the officer and this was checked off as to why my application was refused
"You have not satisfied me that you would leave Canada at the end of your stay as a temporary resident. In reaching this decision, I considered several factors, including:
-Family ties in Canada and in country of residence
-Purpose of visit
-Personal assets and financial status"
In the application I only stated she was a friend because I didn't want them to think I'm going to try and sneak my way into getting a green card. I also don't have a job because I'm currently studying at University and so my ties to my country are very limited and so was not able to submit efficient evidence to why I would want to return. However I am not going to overstay as I do have a second semester to go back to and a family to be with) How can I show them that? and prove that I will in fact go back? I have submitted my Proof of Enrollment in the German University in Cairo but not a flight ticket as I was planning to purchase that afterwards.
Documents I submitted:
-Completed forms (IMM5257, IMM5645, Schedule 1 (IMM527B_1) and the VFS Consent Form)
-Letter of Invitation + her birth certificate
-2 photos with my name on the back
-Application fees
-Travel History (Scanned copies of my passport) (I have been to the United States of America and the United Kingdom and was never rejected a visa before)
-Means of financial support (I would be paying for travel costs while she would be aiding in living costs (food and lodging) but I only stated my mom would be covering the expenses of this trip)
-My mom's proof of employment
-My mom's original and stamped bank statement for the past 6 months
-A letter of support from my mom stating her approval of me going on this visit
-My passport
-A photocopy of my ID
-A booking.com printed screenshot showing my reservation at a hotel nearby
-My birth certificate in English and Arabic
-Proof of enrollment at the German University in Cairo
Before submitting my application an officer at the Visa Application Center reviewed my documents and forms and said I was set to go. However, as stated earlier, the immigration officer was not convinced that I would return to Egypt. I plan to reapply soon and am wondering about a few things.
First of all, do I state she is my girlfriend or keep it as just friends? I do not intend to marry her anytime soon and sneak my way into getting a green card, this is merely a visit but there is no way of proving such a thing. Also would my purpose of visit be Tourism or Visiting Family/Friends? I stated Tourism in my previous application.
Secondly, would including a flight ticket this time around be enough to convince them I am indeed going back on the 21st? Having a return ticket already purchased or do I need additional documents? I am also going to state clearly that I would have to go back for my second semester of school and because of my family on a separate paper.
Also, Should I state that my mom is paying still or do I add that my girlfriend's aiding with the living expenses? Perhaps adding that would remove the whole "Financial Status" problem as my mom's bank account did not have that much money in it. If so would I have to include HER bank statement for the past 6 months as well?
What do I need to prove I have family ties in Egypt? I already filled in the Family Information form. Also, what do I need to show them I do not have any personal assets either, I'm only a student I don't have any lands or businesses or companies I own.
One last thing; does shortening the duration of stay (29th Dec to 21st Jan instead) heighten my chances to get the visa? I would prefer to spend Christmas there but if it's riskier then I would go for only 3 weeks instead.
I'm aware I'm asking a lot of questions but any help is very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
