I came to Canada on a visitor visa in 2004, and applied for refugee protection shortly before the 6 month period ended. The CIC officer found my claim to be eligible and referred my file to the IRB. I then received an appointment for a hearing before the IRB, but decided to withdraw my refugee claim and notified the IRB in writing about my decision.

Then I received the departure order to leave Canada within 30 days and I left the country within those 30 days.

My question is: I need to visit Canada again for my grandson's wedding. Am I eligible to apply for either a visit visa or a super visa? Will I have to explain or mention that I made a refugee claim, but withdrew the claim, before the IRB hearing? Will this negatively affect me, or can I just apply and prove that I will not be staying permanently in Canada?

I would highly appreciate your help. Thank you.

1. It will effect you application big time. Your refugee claim, showed that your intention was to remain permanently in Canada, and the withdrawal of the claim and return to your home country shows that you didn't have any subjective fears.
