Hi guys i'm from the U.S and my husband is from Canada, I have been having a lot of trouble applying for my PR card, there is just so much to do that I am becoming overwhelmed. I am currently living with him in Niagara Falls and applying "inland" I assume? It's just us, no children.

The documents I think I have to complete are:
IMM0008
IMM1344
IMM5285
IMM5406
IMM5443
IMM5481
IMM5669

One of the requirements seems to be a police certificate which requires me to send forms to the FBI, which on the website takes 12-14 weeks or more if you send by mail( I am). My visitor status expires on Sept. 3rd, how do I go about applying for perm. residency if my visitation expires before I can get my police certificate?

Apply outland. You can apply outland while living in Canada. Outland can take as little as a couple of months for Americans vs. a couple of years for inland. To apply outland, you need to complete the following documents and submit them as one application package:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

You can submit the application without the FBI certs and include a letter stating you'll provide them later. Do apply for the FBI certs asap since the processing of your application cannot be completed without it.

Hi

1. Apply outland. You can do this while being physically in Canada. Applying outland you will likely have PR status before you would even receive the OWP from an inland application.

2. Apply for the FBI certicate and provide proof you've applied and submit the application. CIC is also accepting PCC from FBI channellers for American citizens.

3. You can rather easily extend your visitation status with proof of your PR application being submitted and under process.

4. The immigrant forms for outland applications are IMM0008, IMM5406, IMM5669, and IMM5490. IMM0008DEP is to be filled if you have additional dependants and IMM5476 is to be filled if you use a representative.

Thank you so much for the replies.

I would like to know more about the differences between applying inland and outland. As I said before, I only have 2 months left of visitor status. For outland I have concerns about having to go back to the US while my PR is being processed. Or can I apply for an extension with an outland application the same as I could with inland?

Also what is PCC? And would you know where I could have fingerprints done for the FD-258?

Don't even think about applying inland - it's an absolutely horrible choice for Americans.

To answer your question, you can apply to extend your visit in Canada from within Canada (i.e. without leaving).

With extending your visitor status you can remain in Canada while your outland app is processed.

PCC is police clearance certificate. FBI certificate for you.

I am not American and my wife is Indonesian. I am not familiar with where you can have your fingerprints done for FD-258 or the FBI check process.
