Visitor record still valid after leaving Canada and coming back?

Hi,

I applied for visitor record on November 27 to extend my stay in Canada. I entered Canada on October 19 with an eTA, so my visitor status will expire on April 19. There is a chance I might leave Canada in January or February for a 2 weeks business trip, so when I'll come back to Canada after my trip, my visitor status will be restarted and I will be able to stay for 6 months starting from that date. My question is, what will happen to my visitor record application, which, considering the 190 days processing time, will most likely still be in progress by the time I'll be back? Will it still be valid or will it decade by the time I leave Canada for the business trip, regardless if I'm coming back or not? Also, do I need to tell IRCC that I'm leaving Canada with the application still in progress?

Thanks a lot in advance for your clarifications.

Cheers

Damiano

It is technically considered abandoned once you leave Canada, though it can take a while for IRCC to sort that out. If you leave and get re-admitted, you should withdraw the visitor record application.
