Visitor record extension

Hey everyone! I hope you are all good! Happy New Year. I have a bit of a confusing scenario. My wife and I are naturalized Canadian citizens, and recently my mother-in-law's visitor record expired on 18th December 2024, I applied for the extension again on the same day but it showed they received the application on 19th December due to UTC timing (I wasn't aware of that) although she still has her TRV visa till January 21st, 2025. The reason I applied on the 18th is because we were waiting for a new passport to arrive which took a bit more time :).

Last time when we applied for a visitor record, she was given an extension of one year. I am not sure if I should apply for the restoration of status or wait for IRCC since the application is still in process. She's not planning to stay here with us for a long time and will be going back after 5- 6 months infact she already went back to India after staying in Canada for some time. Has anyone had a similar scenario? Should I call IRCC?

Thanks and Have a good day.

her application is still in process at the IRCC? When I apply should I tick mark both restore the status and extend the visa on the form?

Yes and you should withdraw the first extension because it will be denied. Just a reminder that visitor are expected to spend time living in their home country. If anything IRCC expects most to spend significant time in their home country because they aren’t living in Canada just visiting. Also no guaranteed pathway to PR for parents so they should have established ties and a plan if they have to remain in their home country.

Thanks a bunch! I withdrew the application and applied to restore her status. She will be going back home after 2-3 months. She's not planning to settle in Canada, just wants to spend more time with the family.
