visitor record and upfront medical exam

hello, my kid got a study permit for elementary school and I have a visitor visa, anyone knows how to get a visitor record at the port of entry? only with an upfront medical exam and a visa?
By the way, can I take driving test with visitor record in Alberta?

you can apply for visitor record after 5 months landing as a visitor within Canada as accompanying parent to extent your initial 6 months allowance as a visitor. Don't really need to ask for longer allowance at the first time of landing.

yes you can take driving test as a visitor in Alberta, after passing all tests the license should be valid for 5 years.

Thanks for the help. I thought it would be better to get the visitor record at the port of entry, cuz with that visitor record, I would be able to get a driver's license sooner. Hope get the drivers license right before the snowy season.

immigration status has nothing to do with getting driving license.

visitors are not covered by any state benifits.

No you cannot receive provincial health care. Take out private health insurance. You are a vistior. Your child studying in Canada has no benefits for you.

Read through the different stages and eligibility for a driver’s license. Don’t think visitors can. See bottom paragraph.

To get a full Class 5 (non-GDL) driver’s licence you must:

• be at least 18 years of age
• have completed the 24 months of probationary driving
  • Drivers may be eligible to reduce their 24-month probationary period by up to 6 months by completing a Class 5 or Class 6 driver training program from a driver training school licensed by Transportation and Economic Corridors.
• be suspension and demerit free for the last 12 months
• be a Canadian citizen, a Canadian permanent resident, hold a valid work visa, and/or have an approved refugee claim from the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada
• have proof that you live in Alberta
• have valid ID
• have proof of residence in Canada

If you are coming to Alberta from another province or country, you may be able to exchange your licence.

You are only given a 6 month stay and may not be able to visit more than that. Having your child study in Canada doesn’t guarantee a parent can stay in Canada.

yes I totally agree, you may not , and nothing is guaranteed.

but if you just go and do it, you will probably get it. bunch of people I know have gotten 5 years driver's license while on visitor visa in Calgary and Edmonton. Other provinces too. I meself got 5 years driver's license while visiting toronto last year.

and all of the accompanying parents with minors studying in Canada, that i know of, have got their visitor record extended after 5 months of their initial 6 months allowance.

all i am saying is just do it until being told no by government. you will most likely get what you want.
