Hello Everyone,

I hope you can help me with my inquiry.
I have plans of applying for a TRV next month to visit a relative in Toronto.
My chef (NOC B) BF is living in Alberta and is a Temporary Foreign Worker. If ever I will be granted a tourist visa, I will visit my relative in Toronto and fly to Alberta to marry my BF of 4.5 years. After the wedding, I will apply for open work permit while in Canada.

My question is, will it be considered as a fraud? I mean I am single when I applied for TRV, then will marry in Canada as a visitor and will apply for Open Permit right after the wedding. Can somebody advice me on what to do?

Thanks a million to all of you..

That's nothing compared to what some people do....

anyways, you can explain (if needed when you apply for an OPW) that your bf proposed when you visited him, you said yes and you got married.

simple... shouldn't be a problem

If your plan is to get married and you don't put that on your purpose of visit, then yes, you are lying. Lying on an application is a serious offense to CIC. However, in these cases, they seem to ignore the fact and move on. People also lie consistently about visiting Canada when they really want to find a job and get their work permits anyway. There is always a chance CIC will crack down on this in the future, but they seem to have bigger fish on their plates right now.

However, unless you get a long visit visa and your application together quickly, it will be hard to apply before you have to leave. Alberta takes 5-6 weeks to issue marriage certificates alone. You must also include your police clearances no more than 3 months old. If you don't include them, you're at risk of having the application returned. Then you're instantly out of status and deportation time. So ask yourself, is it worth it to lie when you might only get two weeks for a visit?

BTW, your user name - i am kaori. Are you Japanese?

hello amikety and just_do_it;

my real purpose is to visit the family of my sister in ON. I jave not seen her for 6 long years. I just said that I will marry and fly to AB just in case my BF proposed marriage to me, but we are not engaged yet. (Im just assuming, ;D)
We are in the relationship for 4.5 years and were apart for 3 years already. It is so hard that I can think of this silly way for us to be together. He cant go home yet that is why I want to try my luck.. :(

In case I will be granted a TRV, and if AB is processing marriage certs that long, I think, it will be better if we'll just marry in ON. He will visit me instead. With that, I think VO will think that my intention really is visiting ON because I will not leave ON until we are married and fly to AB after the ceremony.

Applying for the Open work permit will definitely depends on the validity of my stay.
If in the border/port of entry and the officer there stamp my passport for 2 weeks, then I will leave Canada and will apply here in my homecountry for open permit. Just_do_it maybe right, I will just say that my BF proposed to me during my visit in Canada. But if on the other hand and I will be granted a maximum of 6 months, then I will apply inland.

Do you think with all of this in my mind, it is possible?
Thanks a lot for your help!

I am from the Philippines by the way.. :)

Just keep in mind, it takes 5-6 weeks on average to get the marriage certification. You must have it for the OWP. Mine took 5 weeks in Alberta. POE won't issue a spousal OWP without it. Alberta also gives a statement of marriage but this isn't a legal document.

If you get in, there are several places hiring workers for Spring and Summer. :)

Thanks amikety.
My documents have been picked up by the courier yesterday and hopeful for the approval.
Per Canadian Embassy, Manila, the estimated of processing is 14 working days, however in the past 10 years, they can reply whether approved or refused in just 10 days.

I have read that the visa office in Korea has been closed and all applications from there will be transferred to Manila. SO I guess with that volume of applications everyday, mine will definitely take long. I just hope, I will be able to receive a verdict before 2nd week of March.

By the way amikety, would you know if visa officers really check the status of the hosts? those who are inviting visitors? will they really call and check the genuine-ness of the application?

Thanks for your input. :)

They will be mostly concerned with you and your ties to home for the visitor's visa. I personally don't know if they check up on people you're visiting - but I've never read about it. When I entered Canada the first time (visa exempt) they didn't even ask the names of the people I was staying with, although they did ask for the address.

That's a pretty good application. Showing you have an exam to return to helps too. I think the only way it could be stronger is if you owned property or a business back home, but not everyone does. Now it's time to wait and find out!

thats a lot Amikety. I will keep you posted. The reason why I have reserved a unit/condo is that, its locations is very near to my workplace and financial district. I can move in to my condo after my contract in the apartment has been extinguished. I included a copy of that and a sample flyer in my app. I forgot to mention that I also included my personal life insurance policy I purchased here and a group life policy (benefit from my company) Right now, I am reviewing for my upcoming exam on April. I just hope, I can relax first in Canada before the battle here.

The real waiting game starts NOW!!
Please pray for me Amikety.. :)
