Hi there, my girlfriend is Japanese citizen here on visitor visa, I am Canadian citizen and the father of the child, we were just curious what type of medical expenses we could be expecting if we were to have the child here? Or would we be better off to have the child in Japan?

Thank you

Allow $10,000 for a uncomplicated birth. If complications arise, there is no limit. $100,000 would be quite possible.

Since the father is a Canadian citizen you wouldn’t be stuck with NICU charges because the baby would be eligible for Canadian healthcare at birth. $9k for vaginal birth with epidural was what someone quoted recently with a 24-36h hospital stay. If you have a c-section costs go way up because of length of stay, operating room, etc so would aim for $20k just to be sure.
