Hello,

I have searched throughout the forum and cannot find an answer.

My aunt (not canadian) is currently on a 6 month visitor visa. It is expiring in 3 months, and we are trying to get an extension so that she may help take care out newborn. On the application/document checklist, it says that she has to send in her marriage certificate (if applicable)

She is married but NOT travelling with her husband (he is back in her home country). Also, her marriage certificate is in Chinese.

Does she have to make a copy of her marriage certificate and attach it to her application?

Thank you!

It says "You must provide a marriage certificate and birth certificates for any accompanying family members."

So if she is here alone, it seems she does not.

Call the CIC helpline to check this.

Thank you for your help!

I called CIC and they were pretty dumbfounded by my question. I was actually put on hold for 20 mins before they could give me an answer. But basically, they said that she would just have to write a letter stating that she was visiting Canada without her husband, and that she did not have the certificate on her.

thought I would reply just in case anyone needs it in the future!
