Visitor- Extension of stay application got cancelled

I have recently applied for an extension stay for my mom, and the application got cancelled, and I checked the website, it says:

"Cancelled" means that, before a final decision was made, we determined that we did not need to process your application. This could be due to one of the following reasons:
-an administrative error was made and your application needs to be re-created by us, or
-we determined that you do not need the status/document for which you applied.
If you believe we made an error when your application was cancelled, please let us know by using the case-specific enquiry form.

Does anyone know what does it mean?

You should get a letter explaining why it was cancelled. If not, you might want to contact CIC. Is your mom having supervisa or regular visa?

my mom has a regular visa, so she can only stay 6 months.

I have not received the letter yet, how to contact CIC?

Make sure you explain your case concisely and input your mum's UCI and current application (extension) number.

If the application is refused, she has to go back to HK and come back after few days, do you know how many days after she can come back?

No one can tell and it also depends on the boarder officer. However, it is recommended the person spends months outside Canada. If the officer finds out the person has been trying to stay longer in Canada on each visa, the officer might denied entry.
