Visitor extension: a few questions

Greetings, everyone!

I'm currently filling my application to extend my visitor visa, as it's going to end at the beginning of February (and I have to hurry). While I'm filling the application, I have a few questions:

1/ I currently live with my boyfriend, and we aim to reach commow-law status (we have yet to have lived one year together, but we're working on it). I was told that I should mention it in my application, but where exactly?

Is it here? Is what I wrote correct? And also: what am I supposed to write in the "how long I plan to stay" field? I'm not really planning to leave at any time so...

2/I'm not sure I understand what they're asking me here.

"Place"? Do they mean my first point of entry in the country? I landed in Montreal, is that what I'm supposed to write?

3/My expenses are being paid by many people: me, my family and my partner. Which one am I supposed to say?

Thanks in advance for your help, official papers always make me a little tense, I'm worried about screwing up. :-[

Can't help you with any of your questions. However you're hurrying needlessly. As long as your application is received by CIC before your current visit expires - you'll be fine.

If you are extending your visitor status so you can establish Common Law with your partner so you can apply for PR then you should put that. That is completely fine.

In the how long you want to stay field, you should put however much more time you need to establish Common Law and maybe a few more months to give you time to apply for PR. You can always apply for another extension later if needed.

Yes, the "Place" would be the airport or if you had drove across the border then you would put that.

I think you can choose "other" and then in the box next to that you can type in Family or if you can fit it all just put all three that you had listed. (family, partner & yourself.

You can also write up a "Letter of Explanation" and just explain a little about your visit and what you are planning as far as establishing Common Law and then you want to apply for PR.

Hope this helps!!

This is a tremendous help, thank you very much!! Is there any template I should follow for this letter? Is it better hand-written?

I think just write it up with your own version is best. I really don't know of any template.
Here is an idea:

I am requesting an extension for my Visitor status for (amount of time you are requesting) to establish a Common Law partnership between myself and (partner's name).
I will be applying for Permanent Residence with my partner as sponsor.

You can write how you started your relationship and maybe list any trips you each took to visit each other.
It doesn't have to be long, just an explanation of why you are requesting the visitor extension. In the letter you can also add that you, family and your partner will be paying your expenses while you are in Canada.

For mine at the time I had a return ticket and wrote in the letter that I had it and if I was approved I would have the ticket changed to accommodate any extension that is approved. I also sent a copy of the ticket.

I am in the process right now of applying for my second visitor extension. My PR application is being processed in Ottawa so I think that will be a big help. If you have any other questions let me know.
Glad to help!!

I do have another question, although a bit unrelated to the original topic at hand:

My visitor visa ends on February 11th, so by what I've read, my application needs to be given before January 11th. The issue is, I won't be able to send it before January 5th (via postal service).
Because of that, I'm worried that it'd be too late.

What counts when verifying the date of application? The stamp from the postal service, or when they receive it? ???

I am not quite sure about what date they go by, but I think as long as you send it in within the 30 days of your expiry date you will be okay.
Are you not applying online?

Nope, applying through postal service so I can add the letter of explanation.
Oh okay! You know if you apply online there is a section to upload a letter of explanation.

I just applied for my visitor extension online yesterday and just received a message that it has been approved. I figured it would be, but didn't think it would be approved in a day. Now the wait for my PR to be approved.

Happy New Year!!!

OOPS, I was incorrect with this info. I guess I was looking at my last extension file that had been approved. I didn't even look at the date.
Soo, it looks like I am still waiting. I apologize for my mistake. I am a dork!! LOL
