Hello all,

I have a plan to visit Pakistan this July and return by end of August 2015. Now the issue is that my TRV is valid till Dec 2015, I am on a PGWP which is valid till Jul 2016. Since my passport is due to expire in Jun 2016, they only issued me TRV 6 months less of my passport expiry date.

I think it should not be a problem to return to Canada as the visa will still be valid at that time but needs some expert advice here because of the hard time Karachi immigration staff give when exiting. Any kind help with this matter would be highly appreciated. Thanks

There are no grounds for any problems with this. Since you have a valid work permit, all you need is the trv to be valid on the day you enter Canada, period.

Don't confuse this with protectorate. That is a completely different thing and a standard requirement.

Probably because you first left Pakistan as a student, you don't know that. Any one leaving Pakistan as a foreign worker needs a protectorate stamp.

If you did not get it the last time (and i would be surprised if they let you fly without it), you are sure going to face problems again. This has absolutely zero relationship with trv

Thank you so much for the detailed reply bro, they infact stopped me last time and I had to take another flight after getting my protectorate stamp. The only confusion for me was that a friend of mine told me that they(Pakistan immigration) want to see the visa valid for atleast next 6 months before exiting Pakistan otherwise they will make excuses that what you will be doing there in Canada bla bla....so I thought its better to seek experts advice here on this forum.

You are most welcome.

If some one says this six month thing probably they don't know what they are talking about. Explain it to them exactly and show your study permit. Six month validity issue is for VISITOR, not for a person holding study or work permit. You do not need TRV to STAY IN Canada since you have a valid study permit. You just need a trv to ENTER Canada.

Technically you can enter on a single entry trv and keep living here for many years if you keep renewing your study permit.

You would only need to renew trv if you enter Canada again.

As always, you could run into any genius in Pakistan who know little about laws and question this. Explain this precisely the way i worded above showing your work permit.
