Hello, if I am currently in Canada ( I am from the US ) am I able to drive to visit my family, or will they most likely reject me coming back across the border?

Whether you are allowed back into Canada or not is entirely up to the CBSA officer at the border. If you've been spending a lot of time in Canada as a visitor and the CBSA officer feels you have weak ties to the US and may be living in Canada - you could be refused.

What about on a visitor visa extension while im trying to get common law? still the same deal?
The extension is only good as long as you remain in Canada. If you leave - it's up to the CBSA officer if you're allowed back in.
