Visit Visa or TRV? from Manila to YK NWT

Newbie here at the forum. Need help, tips and advice on how to go about..I met my boyfriend online last year. He calls me regularly and vice versa. We email a lot too ( just like what most LD relationships). He runs a business in yk and doing well and Im working in a BPO company in Manila. Here's the thing, he cant get here in Manila because he cant acquire a passport due to legal matters not in the next 2 years. He is not a criminal nor in jail (sorry but cant get into details..). I however traveled before ever since i was a toddler (France,India,Thailand,Hong kong and lived in Zambia Africa for 2 yrs but this was so long time ago) and my recent travels was in Singapore, been there twice and stayed for a month every time. We both wanted to see each other and spend time together and the plan is to visit him there instead.
My dilemma, based from the comments from the forums ive read, it seems too hard next to impossible to get a visit visa nowadays Questions are: Can he still make (him allowed?) a letter of invitation for me stating that he will support and or sponsor during my stay? (granting the situation he has?) Also, im not rich, i dont own any property but i have a stable job. How can i deal with this matter and what option do i have left??? Its getting so frustrating for the both of us and all we wanted is to spend time. We have no plans of getting married since all we wanted is to be physically together first. I know how extreme the weather can get there too and i think im not so ready to be staying there for long. In our culture, its very important for the family to see and get to know the man first before allowing one of their siblings to settle down. Im definitely be coming back since my purpose is just to visit not sure if i would want to have a life there. Please help and thank you in advance.

He can provide a letter but you getting a TRV is extremely low, that being said you will need to show strong ties to Manila and the reasons as to why you have to come back..if you can convince the IO that it is a must that you come back, you stand a chance of getting a TRV

Hi. i have the same long distance relationship as yours. I met my boyfriend online in June 2008, then he visited me here in Manila on December 2008. Then I applied for a visitor visa (TRV) so I can visit him in Vancouver. The first thing I did was to browse online for the complete procedure in applying, dowloaded all forms and read all the immigration forums/threads. At first, I was a bit discouraged coz I have lots of friends who were unsuccessful in getting a TRV in manila coz they told me that immigration officers are very strict in Manila. Even if my friends here have relatives/families in Canada, their TRV application was still rejected. Anyway, I still tried my luck and applied. I submitted my form and documents to Canadian embassy in Manila on March 2009, then after 3 weeks, I got a TRV valid for 6 months only. It's a single entry TRV only. So I finally flew to Vancouver in June 2009 for 3 weeks of vacation and I stayed in my bf's place.

The application was difficult coz I had to submit tons of documents, mainly land titles of my 2 lots, registration papers of my 2 cars, employment certificate from HRD, my payslip, income tax return, bank deposit history for the past 1 year, letter of invitation from my bf, approved leave of absence form from HRD, etc. In my opinion, immigration officers there want to make sure that you will not get married, apply for job or overstay in Canada during your vacation, so they are looking for financial, employment and family ties here in Manila which are very significant. I am single too, but I think my employment and my assets are the main factors which the immigration officer saw that convinced him/her that I deserve a visa.


My visa expired last October 2009. I reapplied again last April 2010, this time, they gave me a 2-year multiple entry visa. I think they saw my previous travel to Canada in june 2009 and got convinced that I have genuine intention to return to Manila so they granted me a second visa. The application is hard but stick to facts and dont falsify information in your documents coz they will know if you faked them. And this is dangerous coz this will ruin your future applications for visa (whether as spouse, working or tourist). Good luck..

My gf and I are currently re-applying for a temp. visa,our first attemp was denied. Reasons were lack of assets,immigration status and her and her families home country. She resides in Japan and has a daughter who will remain there if she ever is allowed into Canada. It seems that even having her own flesh and blood remain behind is not good enough reason for her to return from Canada. She still has valid visa for the USA showing that she was there and left again. I don't have high hopes the second attempt will be approved either. All we wanted was for her to meet my family like any other growing relationship. It is sad that all we are are just another name on a piece of paper and not clearly informed of what exactly they want too see,very frustrating!

Is she Japanese? Japanese passport holders does not require visitor visa to enter Canada and can stay up to 6 months (unless there is problem)

If not, the toughest part of all is to prove the vo of her intent to go back to Japan.

My gf is a Filipina with perminent resident status in Japan. Her daughter is a citizen of Japan. She has shown proof of sole custody,financial and credit statements, not sure what more they want,I guess there must be some set financial numbers they want to see? Sort of like the lottery,you keep buying tickets until you get the right numbers !

yeah, it's very difficult for Philippine passport holders to come to Canada to visit. very frustrating.

well, before my mother in law visit, I too thought it's very difficult for Chinese passport holders to come to Canada for visit.

I think the more evidence you provide, the better probability to get the visa.
