Dear Members,

Please guide me with the below :

I am 48 years old. I worked in admin for 15 years. Past 5 years I have been a homemaker but I have worked remotely as a digital marketer. While applying for a visit visa (TRV) I mentioned only I am a homemaker. I hold a Canada visit and US visit visa valid for 8 years. I am planning to go to Canada in December.

How to get approved LMIA while being on visit. How to convert a visit to a work permit and how long does it take to convert? How many years I can work on a work permit

What are the chances of getting PR at this age?

Also, my daughter is studying in Canada on a study permit. I have another daughter who is in class 11 (CBSE SCHOOL) studying in my home country. Is she eligible to study in Canada if I get my work permit and what she can study after class 11 CBSE?

Kindly help.

Based from anecdotal accounts of my compatriots, a visitor stay is not enough to get the work permit. Tourists are usually (but not always) given two to four weeks stay. Wo k permit processing time takes a couple of months and more on most cases. Also, getting an LMIA job offer is hard. If you check Canada’s job bank and filter with “LMIA approved”, you would usually see the requirements as “having a valid work authorisation”. It is very rare to find job postings that says “with or without valid work permit”.

Your age will be working against you. Your only slim chance lies in Non-EE PNPs. I entered Canada as a student when I was 47. Worked later under PGWP and applied for Ontario’s International Student stream (Non-EE PNP). My timeline is in my signature.

Having children studying in Canada may also work against you as this would show ties to Canada. You have to counter this with ties to home country such as properties under your name, etc.

Good luck to you, I know what it feels like trying to apply for immigration at a later age.

Your chances of securing a work permit will likely be extremely low. First of all, it's very difficult to find employers who are willing to go through the LMIA process. Secondly, even if you are able to secure an LMIA, the fact you failed to declare your most recent job experience in your TRV application and just said you are a homemaker will create issues for your work permit application.

You have a low chance of getting PR due to your age unless you have an advanced degree (PhD), know French fluently and have other factors to increase your score.

Come with low expectations to Canada. Most likely only a visit is possible for you. Most likely a work permit or PR will not be possible.

If you want to try to apply for jobs to secure a job offer and approved LMIA, you will need to apply for jobs through sites such as Indeed and LinkedIn or through the web sites of large and trusted companies. You'll want to make sure the jobs you are applying for are related to your previous work experience. Most employers will not consider your application so be prepared to apply for many jobs and hear nothing back.

Agree that it will be very hard to find an employer willing to go through the LMIA process and apply for a WP unless you have a rare skill in need in Canada. The process could also take 6+ months if you find an employer and apply for a WP with no guarantee of success.
