My parents are from Brazil and are visiting Canada, my dad has been in Canada for over 6 months now, only with a stamp in the passport, no TRV paper or anything, we applied to restore/renew his temporary status.

However, we did not receive the renewal yet (TRV paper) - I am getting married in the very near future in Mexico, and it's very important that my dad attends.

If he leaves Canada to Mexico, attends my wedding then flies directly back to Canada - will he be denied entry? His visa (the one glued on his brazillian passport) expires only in 2016. (however, his visit is already over 6 months and waiting issuance of TRV paper)

Thoughts are appreciated!

1. You are mixing apples and oranges.
2. A TRV (Temporary Resident Visa) allows you to come to Canada and apply for entry. A visitor permit (or stamp in passport) allows you to remain in Canada.
3. Your father is applying for an extension of his visitor permit, not TRV.
4. Look at your father's TRV (counterfoil) in his passport. Is it multiple entry or single entry? If it is multiple then it can leave and return from Mexico. If it is single entry, the answer is no he can't re-enter.
5. Note that once he leaves Canada, his visitor status ends, and when he returns it is a new entry.

PMM thanks for the clarification, makes sense.

His TRV (counterfoil) states multiple entries, but it is now expired. (as the passport expired, he has a renewed passport now, but the TRV is in the old expired passport)

Since my initial post, he has received a renewal of his "visitor record" which is valid until 2015, is there absolutely no way to re-enter Canada on an exception basis since this is not a "return to home country" trip? (it's just a holiday trip)

my wife is also in same condition, her visitor record is valid till July 2015, however counterfoil is expiring on Apr 2014. Called call center they suggest to apply for TRV (same application form which is used in beginning).
