I arrived in Toronto on Thursday 14th March from the UK with a 1 year working holiday visa. I was told at Pearson Airport that the "system" was down so they couldn't issue my visa, but they will phone me when it is back up and running so I'd have to go back to the airport to pick it up.
I gave my UK mobile number and the name of the hostel I was staying at and asked for them to call the hostel if they can't reach me as I'd be getting a Canadian number ASAP.
On Saturday 16th I hadn't heard anything, so went back to the airport, found the Immigration office and they advised me that they had mailed the Visa to the address I gave them (I had only given them the name of the hostel).
A few days later, no mail for me at the hostel. I called the Immigration office and they said wait a few days. And so this went on. On Sunday 24th I called again and was more persistent, I was told to come to the airport again and I was then given a photocopy of the visa with a "Genuine Copy" stamp on it and was told by the very moody officer that that will be enough. She even asked me, "What do you need this visa so badly for?" Errrr, to get a SIN? A bank account? A job?
I went to a Canada Service center and they couldn't accept the copy. Canada post states that local mail should take no more than 2 days. Immigration say wait a week. Apparently it can take 90 days for a re-print as well.
It's now been nearly a week and half and still the visa hasn't shown up at the hostel.
I am pulling my hair out and on the brink of a break down. Thank fuck I'm staying in Toronto otherwise I'd be truly in a mess.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
