Visa Stamping

I am from Muscat. I was asked to complete my Medical and send to UK which I did on 23rd Sep 2010. When can I expect to be asked for the passport for Visa stamping ? Where should the passport be sent - UK or Abu Dhabi ? Is it safe to send the passport by post. Also, considering the fact that we are expats, what happens if we need to travel on official visits while the passport has been sent ? How much time would it take to get back the passport ?

Appreciate comments from someone who has already gone through all this.

on the average, it will take 2-3 months for PPR.
And secondly, u will have to sent ur passport to LONDON office through a reliable courier service (DHL, FEDEX, UPS)
On the average , it will take around 30 days for the passports to return back to you after visa stamping.
