Hey folks,

I've submitted a work permit application for Canada starting November 1st, but I just got invited to an academic conference in July. Is my work permit enough for the conference, or do I need a separate visitor visa?

Appreciate any advice!

If your work permit begins on November 1st then that is when you can enter. You need a TRV.

So I need to submit an additional TRV application? Or I must wait until my work permit gets approved to submit a new application?
Since I heard there will already be a visitor visa coming along with my work permit, and I can't apply for two visitor visas at the same time.

Where do you live, and what is processing times? The issue is that your work permit with TRV may only allow you toe enter on or after November 1. having a TRV application underway will not cancel processing of work permit.

I live in France, and here the processing time for work permit and TRV is 11 weeks and around 140 days.
"The issue is that your work permit with TRV may only allow you to enter on or after November 1."
This is exactly my question, I'm not sure of the exact starting date for the TRV coming from the work permit. Some told me that it starts earlier than the contract starts.

Actually, I applied for a TRV last year and got it, but it got invalidated when I changed my passport(The old one expired). So can this experience speed up my new TRV application? (If I must do it.)

If you had a previous TRV, your application may be processed under CAN+ which is expedited processing.

For your work permit with TRV, you will not know of the date of entry until approved.

Okay, thanks a lot!

You will still need to return home between conference at start date. It would be a red flag for someone to arrive in July for a job that starts in November. You’d be expected to arrive in October if your job started in November.
