Hi Everybody,

Quick question - I am Canadian and sponsoring my boyfriend of 2 years who is from the UK but we are living together in Italy...We want his application to be processed in the UK as opposed to Rome because A - he's from there and B - the wait times are less C- we trust the UK more to be faster and not lose things. But since we've been in Rome for 2.5 years now I am not sure which they would automatically send it to....but I have been told we can request the London office (since he's from the UK) - is there a place we must write where the application is to be processed or do we have to write a special request?
We would love some answers ASAP as tomorrow is his medical and we must write the office where it will be processed on his form so we must know by then - thanks alot in advance!!

You have a choice. You're free to choose London or Rome, whichever you prefer. You write the name of the office on the medical form, and then there are one or two places on the actual forms you submit. You'll see where when you fill them out.

From the regulations:

11. (1) An application for a permanent resident visa — other than an application for a permanent resident visa made under Part 8 — must be made to the immigration office that serves
(a) the country where the applicant is residing, if the applicant has been lawfully admitted to that country for a period of at least one year; or
(b) the applicant's country of nationality or, if the applicant is stateless, their country of habitual residence other than a country in which they are residing without having been lawfully admitted.

Frege - thanks alot for the response...we already put London on the medical so we will go back and make those changes to the other forms if we haven't already put London....very helpful - much appreciated!
