Hi there, this might get lengthy so I apologise in advance. I have applied for a TRV to Canada from South Africa, I have included all the paperwork that was asked for, expect plane tickets and a letter from my employer. I live with my parents and have included a letter signed by them that I do. I have funds available for my trip there, back home and well I am there. I tried my best to complete everything like the CIC wanted, yet my application was denied. I have been doing some research and have come to the understanding that because of my age, 23, and such little ties back to S.A. it makes it extremely difficult. We, the family, have been friends with people in Canada for 13 years and it would be really nice to visit them in their home country. Does anyone have some form of an idea on what I can do to improve my stats before re-applying for my TRV. oh one more thing they noted on the rejection letter that I don't have any travelling history, I have not been outside S.A. as Canada is my first.

As you've read, it's not at all unusual for someone your age to be denied. From CIC's perspctive you have relatively few ties to SA. If you want to apply again, you should demonstrate stronger ties to SA. You definitely need a letter from your employer. Not just confirming that you are working for them - but that they know you're going on vacation and will be returning on x date. Even if you add this supporting documentation, there's unfortunately still a good chance you're going to be refused. Good luck.

The visa officer (VO) does a risk profile analysis...'will this person return home after their visit or will they remain in Canada either illegally or perhaps change status to a longer term category?' . At 23 with no ties read responsibilities at home then you are high risk. Fairly or unfairly the VO will also consider how many South African have violated their visit visas so you are caught up with the cheats. The major mistake you made was not to include an employment letter. I suggest wait for another 6 months before you apply..in the meanwhile beef up your savings and get some assets in RSA (a mortgage is a strong tie).
