Visa from within Canada - missed 30 day deadline

I am working in Canada and have a valid work permit. I applied to renew my Canadian visa online. This application was approved but I was not able to send my passport within the 30 day period. Is there any way I can still get my visa on the old application, without paying the visa fee over again?

Send the passport asap and attach a cover letter saying that due to unavoidable circumstances you were not able to send the passport.
