I have recently got married and my husband works in University of Victoria, Victoria BC, Canada, as a post doctoral fellow. His is on a temporary resident visa (TRV) with a temporary work permit (The validity of his temporary work permit is from July/2014 to June/2016 and he will extend it by one more year in the month of march/2016).

I have recently completed my PhD from IITM, Pune and I wish to visit my husband at the earliest. As soon as I will get the visa I will resign from this post in IITM (anyway my PhD fellowship/tenure will be over by April/2016).

Since currently my husband's work permit is not valid for more than six months, so I think I can not apply for an open work permit. Am I right?

That means I need to apply for a tourist Visa. In order to apply for a tourist visa please clarify the following points:

1. Duration of the visa: If I apply for more than six months period, does it increase the risk of rejection?

2. Financial position: As I have mentioned that I will resign from the job as soon as I get the visa, should I mention about my job or should I say I do not have a job?

1. Yes - this will significantly increase the chance of rejection. I would ask for 2-3 weeks.
2. Ideally you should say you have a job and show proof of that job as well as a letter from your employer confirming that you are taking a 2-3 week holiday and when they expect you back. To be approved for the visa, you'll need to show strong proof that you have ties to your home country. A job is one of the best ways to demonstrate proof. Having property helps as well.
