Visa expired but have a valid work permit- how can enter canada?

Hi,
My visa got expired in March 2015 but I got my work permit valid till 2017. I am in India (my home country) now.

Can I extend my TRV from India with my work permit to re-enter into Canada?
If yes, what will be the procedure to apply?
If no, can I apply for a new TRV?

Thanks ttrajan, but I heard that I can apply for visa extension from outside canada only 15 days or more before expiry date. So, if I apply now, will they reject my application?
