Visa duration

Hello Everyone,

Can anyone please tell me that for a 2 year course,what would be the duration of study visa granted(in terms of months).I have applied for a fast track 2years/16 months (Consecutive)course... so was thinking that wot would be the visa duration..would it be 24 months or 16 months?

And

Does anyone know about the duration of work permit that one can get over this course....?would it be 16 months or 2 or 3 years?

Hello,

the visa duration would from the date your visa is issued till the end of the course.

for eg.

My offer letter states that the course is of four years from 3 jan2012 to 31 dec 2015.But it also states that ideally the course is completed in 2 years.so i was issued a visa valid from 28th Nov(visa issue date )till 31 dec 2013.

Normally a work permit is granted depending on how long is ur course on paper.so for a 2 yr course you will be given a 3 yr work permit.

u wil get 1.5 years work permit.............

you may get 3 year work permit..

it will not go below two years in any case.. cause your course duration is 2 years.

Hmmm........but guys...every 2 year course contains only 16 months of study apart from co-op ones......4 working semesters that make 2 years....The only difference is that it doesnot have any summer breaks........

even if you complete the course in 16 months ( by studying even in summers ), you still get three year work permit..you can see many members in this forum got three years work permit after studying 16 months. ( because there is a concept of credit hours.. four semesters are 16 months and give credit hours which validate 3 years work permit)

the pemit is dependent on the course duration which is written on our letter of acceptance. now a two year course gets three year work permit.

please do some research in this forum , you will find plenty of examples on the aforementioned credit hours.

the friend you are mentioning ..must have got 16 months course written on his loa..

if its written that your course is for two years on loa..then you get three years work permit.

if period less than two years, than you will get the visa equal to period of study..e.g the gal you mentioned had 16 months written on loa..must have got 16 months work permit.

you are correct mate but this is quite confusing also..On my offer letter its written 2years/16 months consecutive...this is the main problem area.....later on ,Whether the embassy would issue work permit based on "2years" or "16months"...don't know....even if we know that 16 months implies 2 years only...

in Canada, one year has two regular semesters , one winter and other fall. hence, in one year you have 8 months regular sem ( 4 months each). so a two year course means 16 months automatically.

the 2 years time period mentioned on loa is maximum time limit under which we can complete our study in the college/ university. the minimum time period is 16 months ( if we choose to study in summers). in any case a student who completes the studies even in 16 (min time)or 2 years (max time) months ..may get the 3 year permit, cause there is concept of credit hours.



on the other hand, the students attending fast track courses..may have 16 months duration program ..which has special feature of necessary study in summers. so, here the situation is different.

the loa says max time is 2 years.. so we may get 3 years.. please corroborate this from vfs site..or chc.. or click here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work.asp where the length of work permit is clearly mentioned.

On further analysis i found that your course end date on loa is april 13...and your course has no summer breaks.... You will get 16 months permit , so i agree with vini.
