Visa application along with work permit renewal

Dear experts, I've a question about WP and visa renewal.

Since my entry as a foreign worker I renewed my WP once but the visa has expired several months ago, which means that I cannot leave Canada temporarily without having a return visa. Now I am trying to apply for a new WP and wondering whether or not there is any way to apply for both at the same time as I need to visit my home country soon.
I dont know about visa processing time for inland applicants but WP alone takes 3 months. That's why I am trying to know if one can apply for both at the same time without running the risk of not getting visa for not having a new WP first.

You can submit both at the same time but not together. The TRV app is separate from the work permit extension app.
