Hello All,

Other day I met one elder man (of Indian origin), who is a Canadian citizen. He said that... unless a student is academically bright or financially strong and/or he has close friends/relatives/people or atleast someone known in community he can call up in case a need arises, some trouble happens... then only one should take the risk of going to Canada.

If one is average, not financially or academically very strong... nor if one has any close relatives/friends or atleast community to have support...then one should not take the risk and come to Canada.

Now,there are thousands of desi students go to Canada who have absolutely no connection, nor they know anyone nor are academically or financially very strong...just average..yet they manage to get jobs and most important PR. While some or many from the Indian communities like the Punjabis and Gujaratis may have relatives/friends/community connections... but in general average desi student don't know anyone in new country... and yet manage to get jobs, PR and settle down.

What do you guys think? Can average desi college student who knows no one in Canada/no community support can succeed there in getting job, PR etc.?

well jobs r not easy....dont expect to land a job if ur studies are not good...economy is bad and in this tough times there is lot of competition. each and everyone should weigh their own options . u should consider if u dont get a part time job how can u pay ur living expenses. also do not expect to pay fees from the part time/odd jobs. dont expect that once ur visa is done means ur set no....there r lot of tough times after u get the visa....u should think twice about going to canada if u cannot pay ur tution fees for ur complete education.

you will not be able to pay your own fees. if you are depending on working and earning it don't go. you will not be able to study and will collapse back to your position now. and will lose money and career prospects here aswell. if you are financially strong than you can go but you need to have a stable and calm thinking if no community support their

Yeah friend. got it. Times are tough.

I've been told that.. full time job after studies.. something or other...one can get for example in provinces like Saskatchewan and Manitoba and also Quebec (if you can speak atleast OK French, without French also possible), so as to support oneself and get PR... but finding part time jobs with studies and doing is a big challenge and hard work.

How much do we need per month to survive in big cities of Canad alike Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg etc.? Is 500$ enough for food, shared accommodation, bus pass and mobile and small miscellaneous expenses?

Good point!
Yeah friend. I know. No way possible to pay tuition fees by doing part time jobs.

I'm just worried about as to if one can earn enough for living expenses..or do I need to get money for that also?

everyone has to work while studying...thats how u can pay for ur living expense...i believe with a shared living with roommates u can manage in 600-700 but if u ask me be prepared for 1000 just to be safe..u know expenses creep up...

i believe u can work part time and have enough for living expense.....but initially u will have to spend..like till u get a part time job and if u rent an apartment u have to pay first months rent as well as deposit which is equal to first months rent. be prepared for 3 month out of pocket cost till u get a part time job just to be safe.

Yes.. of course..one cannot expect to go and get a part time job immediately...unless one already has solid/strong connections/friends/relatives/community support....
