I'm living in Austria at the moment and have heard that all photocopies of official documents (also translated documents) must be stamped by a lawyers office for verification. Is that a requirement for this. I would think that because it is the Canadian government who is reviewing the documents, that we should follow there rules. I have not read anything about this.

Do you have to get photcopied documents stamped for verification?

Thanks

the only document we had a notarized copy of was our marriage certificate. we were married in nigeria, and took our marriage certificate to the canadian high commission and had them notarize a copy. cheaper than a lawyer, and i think much better for immigration purposes to have 'canada' on the official copy.

If it doesn't say on the official checklist that photocopies have to be notarized, then they don't need to be. It won't hurt to have it done, but it is expensive (or can be) and the visa officers don't expect it.

in our case, i'm glad we did. i have heard of 2 other couples who were told to go to abuja and get their marriage certificates authenticated before their interview. our little trip to chc possibly saved us a trip to abuja!
