I have a brief question! I'm trying to find out if the 6 month rule to visit Canada from the USA is per visit or total in a year because I can't remember the exact length of time for one of my past trips and I'm trying to calculate if I stayed over 6 months total or if it's reset each visit.

I've searched some past posts, but from the early years and I just want to get a confirmation for the current laws. Thank you guys!

There's no firm six months rule. If and how long you are allowed into Canada is always up to the CBSA officer you encounter at the border. Generally speaking however, you want to be spending more time outside of Canada than inside of Canada as a visitor each year. Otherwise CBSA may see this as an abuse of the visitor privilege and may feel you're trying to live in Canada without authorization. But again, no hard / fast rule. Entirely up to the CBSA official.
