Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hi guys, quick questions ..

I'm a US citizen, working on a temporary 3 year work permit here in Toronto. The company is an IT software firm.
I'm in the process of applying for a Canadian PR, to help me conduct work and business freely between the US, and Canada. We have offices in both places, and I have to travel back and forth.

The filing will be as a skilled worker, employment based, category 1, not sure what that means, but that's what the lawyer said. I am actually in a high demand skill level.
I haven't filed yet, we're still getting everything together. One of the documents needed was an employer letter confirming they would have a position for me in the future, after I get my PR - I have that letter.

Question is, after filing, say 3-4 months down the road, maybe more, God forbid, I lose my job due to any reason, how would that affect my PR application?
Is my PR application independent of my employer, or does it depend on my employer for a certain amount of time, or always depend on the employer?
I'm not clear on that, so any help will be appreciated.
Whether there is a 'stage' after which I'm safe in-case this happens.

Now, I know what you thinking, ask your lawyer, that's what he's for!
I did, he's researching it, and I'd like everyone's opinion please.

Cheers,
mogli.

your citizenship doesn't make you more or less favorable. you will be placed in a queue just like everyone else.

since you're already in Canada, you willl be applying to the Ottawa Visa Office. FSW processing there is slow, and you may be better off work for a year and try CEC category instead.

now, to answer your question, losing your job in Canada doesn't affect your app status. just make sure you update your contact info.

if you're new to Canada, coming from the good ol' USA, be prepared for the paycheck deduction and price shock. also expect CADUSD to fall to 0.95 to 0.92 level later this year.

now that sequester is in place, getting a Nexis card may be smart unless you often cross border during strange hours.
