US to Canada

Hello, my husband is sponsoring me for PR. Our application was received by the CIC on July 11, 2018 and processing began July 12, 2018. Can anyone share their recent experience if they have a US spouse sponsored by a Canadian spouse? Wondering if in fact, it will take the full 12 months (there are no other family members involved). I know 12 months is the text book answer. Just wondering if there are any couples out there like us who had a shorter processing time.
Thanks in advance for any responses.

If this is an outland application US apps are generally processed significantly faster than 12m.

I am Inland, on a visitor visa for 12 months.
Inland applications consistently take 11 to 12 months, unlike outland apps that vary far more and are generally much faster for US applicants.

Note that you can apply outland while inside Canada, are you sure you applied inland?

Honestly, I’m not sure. We started the process when I was still in the states, but application was submitted 5 months after I arrived in Canada. I’ll have to check with my attorney.

Why the discrepancy in time between the two types?

Outland prioritizes family reunification (as many outland applicants are separated from their spouse), whereas inland you have to be together to apply. The inland application allows you to apply for an Open Work Permit alongside the application so you can work while you're waiting.

Like I said, though, you can apply outland from inside Canada.

Is there an indicator on the application number or anything else to show one vs the other? I have emailed my attorney’s office but I am now very curious.

Also, is there a chance our application could be approved sooner than 11-12 months if It was filed as Inland?

Not really. Maybe marginally faster but they're processed completely differently than outland and inland is really consistent. Have you received SA, med request etc?

Nothing yet as far as SA. Is there an approximate timeline to see these things come through?
Do you mean a copy of the forms sent for our application?
Yes. SA comes in the beginning stages of an outland application and closer to the end for inland. There's no way to know unless you have the forms (where you have to specify inland or outland) or your lawyer tells you.

I guess I sit tight for my attorney to respond to my email now and see how our application was filed. Being a good attorney they would know one is processed quicker than another and they would have gone that route for us I would hope.
If filed Outland, what is the average it takes?

There is no average for outland, it is also a 12 month target processing time, but US Outland apps processed in Mississauga tend to move quickly. Often 6 months or less, but not always. When you confirm with your lawyer, you can look in the US outland applicants thread if you are in fact outland.

Wouldn't bank on the comment about your lawyer, they make mistakes all the time on these applications. Hopefully they didn't, but you'll need to wait and see what they say.

Thank you for your help and patience with all my questions. I greatly appreciate your time.
