Hello

So my fiance is American and she lives in Florida. She and I want her to be able to come here to Canada, and we have no idea where or how to start the process. Our biggest hurdle is the fact that she is disabled. She has cerebral palsy, and although she is intellectually very smart, she is in a wheelchair and has lymphedema. I've done as much reading as I can about people with disabilities and immigration, and it all sounds fairly bleak, as the only information that I could find was about how difficult it was for people with disabilities to move to Canada.

We need some concrete answers though about how to apply, where she'll need to go to apply, if we should hire a lawyer, and if there is anything that we can do to help the process along in regards to her disability.

I honestly feel like I'm navigating my way through the dark because I don't want to mess up and lose the chance to have her with me as she's the most important person in my life.

So if there is anyone here who can offer any kind of help at all, that would be wonderful.

Once you are either married or common law, then you will be able to sponsor her as your partner. Common law means you have lived together continuously for at least one full year. Her medical issues will not be a barrier as spouses / partners are exempt from excessive demand. Assuming you want to go the spousal sponsorship route, you should post any further questions to the family sponsorship section of the forum.
