newcomer, why not take an online degree from a canadian university instead? then, you're sure it's recognized, and it's a lot cheaper than similar US degrees! :)

I am thinking about taking online course from Canadian university, but, Is an online degree recognised the same as an 'in class' degree?

They recognize the degree from US universities who are accredited in the US. UOP (University of Phoenix) is one of them and is valid in Canada. Try taking the online degree from there, its bit pricey though., however if your company pays than its worth it, you will gain some extra points.

Another option is, wait till you get there and start your masters in Canada, my plan is pretty much the same.

thanks ghias khan n everyone.I ve written to canadian authorities abt this issue.see wht do they respond.
as far as taking an online degree from Canada s concerned i ve not been able to find a Canadian university cheap ( n still accredited) enough to match with my US university.also i think still US degrees r given more prefernce worldwide as compared to other countries s ,when they r of almost same standard/rating.

New Comer,

One of my friend has Online degree and is recognized by the CIC and you get the points. He applied and he got all his points he claimed.

You should find out if University of London is recognized in canada, if so Uni. of London external studies is a better option than University of Phoenix. But both these will not give you points. If you want a cheap distance learning alternative, look at www.unisa.ac.za and I heard from a friend that it is pretty good and cheap.

University of Phoenix will 100% give you points in FSW. Please do not guide people if you are not confirmed.

Read this;
http://www.uopxworld.com/InfoPages/distance-education-canada.asp

As GhiasKhan said, you can also confirm this with the authorities.

I would say, if you want a degree so you can get extra points, it's better to take it from a Canadian university. Two advantages: first, you are sure it will be accepted in your FSW application (as long as you pick an accredited program!); second, a Canadian degree will put you in a better position when applying for jobs.

Here, take a look: http://www.cvu-uvc.ca/english.html

This link is great and "Distance Education" which is University of Phoenix is mentioned here also as accredited. If you do a online degree and if it is accredited in Canada or USA, then you won't have any problems in the job sector.

yes,New Yorker, the link s really great but there r two reasons due to which i cant take advantage of it.Firstly I m expecting a docs update in July-Aug 2009,whereas my masters degree ll be going to take atleast two years or so to complete so for sure at the time of my IA i m dnt going to ve points for my incomplete degree.Secondly the cost s too high for me at this point(around 17000$) as compared to an US one (less than 4000$) n still accredited. So the only option available for me is to get that one.Anyways thanks very much for helping me in this regard ,i m extremly grateful to all of u n i hope some other one ll take advantage of it.

hmm... yeah, I forgot that you'd be paying the international fee if living in the US but taking the course at a canadian university. :-/

then I guess U of Phoenix is the way to go ;-)

just make sure the course you're planning to take is accredited and will add to your CV.
